How to Look Like Faith Hill (Part I)

Faith glows. Wouldn’t you? She loves herself, her life, her kids, and her husband who I assume she makes love to as often as physically possible. And she’s smart enough not to eat what her mamma raised her on in Mississippi.

This is a three-part series about women in, near, or past midlife with beautiful skin. This series will teach you how to have beautiful skin like Faith’s without needing photo-shopped like they did to her on the cover of the July, 2007 Redbook.

H20, Sex, and Sleep

Beyond rising in the morning with Tim, one of Faith’s beauty secrets for looking so fresh-faced is drinking 90 oz of water a day. Our skin is composed of 90% water. And so without the right amount of water to keep that level, the skin tends to be unhealthy and dry. In fact, dehydration does not affect the skin alone, but the rest of the body as well, including the vital organs like kidneys and lungs.

Next, have an orgasm often. Sex is proven to improve your skin. During sex, the body perspires, which helps flush out toxins and releases skin-nourishing oils. The deep breathing and elevated heart rate that happen upon climax cause more oxygen to circulate throughout the body creating a natural glow.

Too tired for sex? Diane Lane, 47, says sleep is her secret weapon and great equalizer. So let’s get back to the basics ladies, water, sex, and sleep. Then repeat, repeat, repeat.

Diets to Be Faithful to For Great Skin

Faith Hill passes on the country-fried steak and turns to her preferred Mediterranean diet instead. The good fats in her diet such as extra virgin olive oil and avocados help keep her skin youthful.

Dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, M.D. recommends a diet filled with fish, berries, eggs, and olive oil. His anti-inflammatory diet embraces foods that contain proteins, antioxidants, and Omega 3 fatty acids. Perricone even goes as far to say eating fish twice a day for four straight days will erase your under eye dark circles.


You are what your eat.

Oily fish like sardines and mackerel contain essential fatty acids that actually reduce skin inflammation and keep your skin ultra moist. Fatty fish provides hefty helpings of anti-aging omega-3 fatty acids; salmon, mackerel and albacore tuna are among your best bets for staying beautiful.

Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries produce collagen to keep your skin supple, smooth and plump.

“An unmistakable glow emanates from midlife women who are happy and satisfied with their lives – a glow that no amount of skincare products, cosmetics, or plastic surgery can create,” says Christiane Northup author of the Wisdom of Menopause available through Hay House.

The Proof is in Not Eating the Pudding

Hali Smith had orthognathic surgery to correct TMJ and her asymmetrical jawline. As a result of having her jaw broken in four places and the swelling, she was placed on liquid diet for well over a month. Because her diet shifted away from fried foods, beer, pizza and other indulgences to protein shakes, soups, liquified fruits and applesauce her skin transformed.

Though she had beautiful skin prior to the diet change, her skin would give Faith some non-celebrity competition in the no-need to airbrush me category. Smith was a walking example of what foregoing the American diet of chips, processed foods, and salty deli meats, sugar, and alcohol can do for one’s outer layer let alone what it does for anti-aging your internal organs.


Hali Smith’s skin glows after changing her diet. More sex following her 2009 wedding at 47 hasn’t hurt either.

    Let’s not leave the guys out, because some of us like to take care of our skin too. About ten years ago I made the decision to up the ante on my personal hygiene program. Very simply I asked the question, “what should I be doing to cleanse my face every day and… given that, what are some good products to use?” I discovered a plethora of information on skin care products for women, but I had a heck of a time researching products and guidelines for men. After spending countless hours researching, I was finally able to boil it all down to a simple, three step process – cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize. Clinique has some great products that I’ve been using for years, albeit a bit on the expensive side. To find an affordable mix that works for you, I’d suggest trying out some different products based on your age, skin type and your typical level of exposure to sun.
