Mac Hires 90 Year-Old “Model”

This is my first media roundup. So stay with me to the end. I’m going to summarize the highlights from four women’s issues that impact you and I want to get your read at the end.

As you know, much is going on in the news with women stepping up and speaking up regardless of being called bas-beens, sluts, or other names to try to drown us out and pass laws that take away our rights as women.

Iris Apfel Is New Face at Mac Cosmetics

Ninety year old Iris Apfel retired from interior design but is enjoying the role as Mac Cosmetic’s newest model and spokesperson at 90. I applaud Mac for recognizing beauty over the age of 25, when many runway models are sent out to pasture.

Flush Rush

When Russ Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut and a prostitute and asked her to make a sex tape for him he made it clear to the world, according to feminist Soray Chemaly that: every woman, even one simply speaking civilly and intelligently in her own interest, can be called a slut for no other reason that she’s a woman.

Limbaugh’s apology was insincere and underhanded.  For now Limbaugh still appears to employed. May Mike Huckabee take away all of his remaining listeners.

I’ll end this media round up on a lighter note. Author Tracie Egan Morrisey at Jezebel gives us the grand tally of what we pay to keep our legs, vulva, and vagina in good working order. In her humorous but factual post, The Cost of Having a Vagina, she calculated $1700 per year to stay groomed and healthy.
