I loved growing up hearing my mom read us grand stories of Greek gods, goats, and great cities. Just before my 50th birthday, I had to be hospitalized to remove a benign tumor on my spine. On one of my mom’s visits she pulled out the book, The Nose,” by Gogol, which I enjoyed hearing her read again to me even through my morphine induced fog.
