Give Belly Fat the 1-2 Punch with Pilates and Paleo
Muffin tops, love handles, human Tootsie rolls, and girdle stuffing. Those extra pounds that jiggle around your midriff in midlife can be melted away if you’re motivated. All it takes is diet and exercise – but which combination?
As we age, too much cardio can take a toll on our knees and body so many of my foxy female Mona Lisas have turned to yoga, Pilates, or a combination of both. Personally I’ve had great success not returning to my Pillsbury Dough girl figure of 2008, earned by eating too much Mexican food then retiring to the couch for the evening by doing three things (1) hiring a personal trainer to spank me for nine months (2) then walking or doing yoga six days a week and (3) following a 90% vegetarian diet. I went from a pudgy size 8 to a slim size 4 and I’m holding steady in midlife. My yogi lifestyle enables me to keep lean without killing myself at the gym or starving myself.
My friend and masseuse Betty Mantz is in her 50s and has regained her bounce-a-quarter off her stomach figure and ideal weight through a combo of Pilates or yoga five days a week. She also is a Paleo diet advocate (no sugars, no grains, no legumes and lots of vegetables, seafood, and meat).
Listen to Betty’s story below and how she shed those last seven sticky-bun pounds and upped her energy and skin vitality with the one-two punch of Paleo and Pilates.
Betty gives Tina Sprinkle high praises for her inspiration and guidance through her Fat Loss Program at Pilates 1901 in Kansas City, Mo. Check out what Tina’s other clients have to say about the 12-week program for a remarkable $299.
Perhaps you can find a Tina-type in your neck of the woods to give a similar program a try.
The Evolution of the Paleo Diet
When we were cavewomen, grains were not a part of our diet and were only introduced at the time of the agricultural revolution 10,000 years ago. Today we’re tempted with processed foods, fast foods, preservative-filled foods, hormone injected and genetically modified foods.
The industrial revolution has totally altered what we eat, how it’s produced and its shelve life. Our bodies are out of whack as a result. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer have increased to epedemic levels.

Betty Mantz glows from her Paleo diet and Pilates workouts started just 9 months ago in midlife, mid 50s.
If we are what we eat, we need to eat differently be in Paleo, whole foods, organic, Mediterranean, or what works for you, but it certainly isn’t the American diet we grown accustomed to that has pushed as into L, XL, XXL, XXXL sizes. We’ve run out X’s but not out of fresh food choices. Enjoy a whopping serving of fresh fruit and vegetables for your next meal and enjoy. Then send your muffin top an eviction notice.
