Balance Your Pesky Hormones with 3 Essential Oils

[ 0 ] October 10, 2012 |

On my continued journey to living a rockin’ and healthy midlife, I’m using more essential oils and less prescriptions and toxic products (all under the care of my doctor, herbalist and ayurveda practitioners of course).

In your second or third act, if you’re fighting hormonal imbalances like me, you’ll enjoy my 3.5-minute interview with herbalist and soon-to-be certified aromatherapist, Jen Denslow, from Sage Yoga Center of the Healing Arts.

Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life

In this video on balancing hormones with essential oils, Jen highly recommends reading Claudia Welch’s book, Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life. When it gets restocked at my yoga center, I’ll get my copy too. It’s flying off the shelves there.

 Is Estrogen Dominance to Blame?

In the meantime, enjoy this presentation by Dr. K. Hill on hormones and essential oils. Dr. Hill says a major cause of hormone balance is estrogen dominance. Here’s a brief summary on a few of the essential oils he addresses in this video that I found at Everything Essential.

Hot Flashes: Peppermint, Geranium, citrus oils, Balance and Clary Sage.  Peppermint is an excellent way to cool down and may be effective on the feet at night, the back of the neck, on the chest, or some prefer a spray bottle with Peppermint and water for easy application.

Fatigue:  Ginger, Peppermint, the Life Long Wellness pack, and White Fir.  The Life Long Wellness provides the balanced supplements to increase energy levels.  Ginger, Peppermint, and White Fir individually or together are invigorating.  Peppermint and White Fir inhaled or on the temples is effective and Ginger topically applied to the liver and adrenal glands is also helpful to some.

Libido:  Ylang Ylang, Ginger, Peppermint, Elevation, Clary Sage.

Important Note:  Essential oils are nature’s medicine. Do not use if you are pregnant or have breast cancer. It’s best to work under the direction of a physician, holistic care practitioner, herbalist or certified aromatherapist when using essential oils. The information shared at Midlife Mona Lisa is for information only, not a diagnosis. Please consult your physician with your questions or concerns.
