Six ways to Quickly Un-Numb Your Senses
1. Declare a day of silence this weekend
Shut off your phone and email. Explain to your family, kids or roommate what you’re doing and to respect your silence. Wear a sticker saying you’re in silence if you must go out or just feign laryngitis. Then make note the next day how much less chatter is really necessary in your life or what you hear when you choose to listen instead of speak.
2. Rotate fabrics
Pick out a different fabric to wear each day of the upcoming week and keep a journal of how it feels against your skin. (Leather, silk, cotton, wool, cashmere, linen, denim, corduroy).
3. Attend a tasting
Go alone for the experience not the social aspect to a wine, bourbon, sake, tea or tequila tasting. And really let your palette open to the gamut of tastes. Close you eyes, swirl, swallow, and describe what you’re tasting.
4. Play a game of body-part Twister
Take turns with your partner touching five areas of your body against five areas of his body that you rarely come into contact with. Yes I made this up so allow me to get your started. Tongue to toe, check to bun, ear to belly, run tip of nose all the way up the length of his spine, drag your hair across the entire…). Not feeling creative? Order a chemistry set from the Bedroom Chemist and ignite all your senses.
5. Take an aromatherapy trip
Attend a class or go to your local health food store and explore smelling 10 essential oils you’re unfamiliar with.
6. Tune into a different channel
Either swap play lists or hear what you friends are listening to on Spotify. Or attend something you never have — an opera, live orchestra, or heavy metal band. Mix it up.
Heightened awareness is the idea of having a higher appreciation, knowledge of, and consciousness of your connection between the physical plane, and the spiritual plane.
