Cut Your Beauty Budget and Half and Go to Bali

[ 1 ] January 31, 2013 |

I’m the first to admit I like to look good and cough up cash to put on my best face. I get monthly microderms and I drop at least $100 bucks on month on my hair. Even so I was shocked to learn that the average American female spends $12,000 a year on beauty products and treatments.

Holy Maybelline!

That was my entire salary my first job out of college AND the amount I need to save every year to bring my retirement account up to snuff. Half that amount would make an unforgettable vacation to Bali, Belize or Bermuda so why blow it on blush and BB cream?

Would You Do Your Own Nails for $10,000?

Did you know if you skipped your monthly manicure and pedicure and placed that $50 a month in your retirement account every year for ten years, you would have nearly $10,000.

Is what you’re spending on beauty pretty darned ugly from a finance perspective? If you’re biting your nails adding up what you’ve spent or what your daughter is spending on makeup and salon visits, read Beauty at Any Cost.

cost of beauty, boomer worries, boomer women beauty, plastic surgery costs

Average American woman spends $12,000 a year on beauty and procedures while men spend half that or less.

The study by a survey conducted by the BOOMbox Network shows boomer women fret a lot about their hair color and yellowing teeth. I think we worry too much period. So the motto of this post is, “Don’t worry, be wealthy.” Save some of that unnecessary beauty spending for something more fun that sitting in a salon chair, on a table being waxed, or smelling toxic chemicals getting acrylic nails back filled.

You’re beautiful, radiant and desirable without spending a dime.

    a) thanks for the shout out friend!! b) I’ve been spending more lately, instead of less, owing to on-camera time and a new love. c) I’m still trying to avoid the total $12k trap, but it’s probably around $3k for the year at my current pace. d) love your ebook series and will download soon. e) love the book, “Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me,” where I learned that baking soda added to your daily cleanser makes a perfect exfolliant; and Lancome=L’oreal – same product, different label and way less price.
