XOXOXO–The Universe Supports You and Wants You To Win

[ 0 ] March 4, 2013 |

That was apparent by all the emails I received following my appearance on a reality TV show, The Job. Thanks to all who watched me try for an editorial position at Cosmo Magazine on national TV only to get kicked to the curb.

I received emails of support from around the country (thank you all). You can read those below and my full story about all the behind the scenes barbs and BS here: Why I Almost Sold Out to a Job Selling Vanity and Vibrators.

My main hope was to carry the torch for midlife women and show that we still got it.

Cosmo, The Job, CBS, reality tv, ageism, unemployed, competing for work, boomers out of work

My Midwest demeanor earned me no bonus points with the East Coast Cosmo Editors.

I am from Denver, Colorado and I just wanted to say that I saw you on your episode of The Job and was completely floored by you. Even though it didn’t go your way I know you will be successful at whatever you put your mind too. You are stunning, smart, sexy and full of class. That is rare today.

Rob (Denver)

I thoroughly enjoyed the overview that you wrote on your experience with reality television. I’m glad that you were NOT chosen for that position – you’re destined for much greater. You have been given a gift, a very creative mind, use it in the direction you want; not the Cosmo image. Plus we want you to stay in Kansas City : )

Chris (Kansas City)

Hi Brenda, I like many others saw you on The Job. Despite being the first one let go, I thought you did great. You had a good eye for fashion while maintaining a positive attitude. I also liked your hairstyle when you were at the Cosmo offices. So, clearly, you have something to offer in that field. I hope employers were watching and saw the same thing and made you an offer!

Paul (Los Angeles)

Hey Brenda – This is Tammy Ross – we went to High School together – I saw you in the paper and then checked out “The Job” on line – how exciting to see you on TV – Hope it was a fun time for you – Take care – We do not look 50 girl – take care!!

Tammy (Excelsior Springs)

Saw you on The Job and was very impressed by your presentation and felt that you should have been one of the finalists. You exhibited a simple elegance, sparkling personality in addition to your business skills.

Michael (Kansas City)

I thought you looked great and represented all mid life Mona’s beautifully! I am so proud of you for going for it. I especially liked your street project performance – both your confident attitude & your fab outfit with the deep pink shoes and boots. it showed that you had the moxy and confidence to do the job. the last two girls did have magazine experience on their side. Way to go, Brenda!!!

Deb (Kansas City)

Friday’s show with Cosmopolitan was completely lame. The winner couldn’t spell, the first kicked out was age discrimination, number 2 removed couldn’t spell either! The male told the audience that he could write and isn’t that what the job was! Your second runner up was chastise for poor language skills but still was given a job.The quality of your job pool must have been so low. How did these people graduate from college?

Nancy (Boston)

I believe New York is not worthy of someone of your midwest values. I would like to keep in touch.
I got all three of my degrees at Warrensburg in different areas of special education and school admin. I learned to appreciate the hard work of a dedicated person and developed a life long interest in careers. This has prepared me for my second career as a recruiter.

Our niche market is in staffing, and we do little work in the creative realm. That said, I would invite you to connect in the event that some opportunity crosses my desk that may be of benefit to you. I’ll leave the ball in your court.
I do look forward to hearing where your career takes you after The Job.

Merle (Kansas City National Recruiting Manager)

I had never seen “The Job” until last night but perhaps it was the night I need to see to connect with you. I just gave notice to my job of 15 years to pursue writing and publishing a magazine. You just may be the one I need to partner with to make this dream a reality. Brenda, you are an inspiration. I saw you and said to myself “I want to be like her when I grow up”. As I am just beginning my journey I am a long way from the idea in my head to the finished product. I am seeking copyright advise and a printing company. If you can recommend anyone in those areas, it would certainly be appreciated. As I come closer to making this dream a reality I would be honored if you would profile me on your blog.

Keep on inspiring women and doing “You”.
